Grade 2 – Triplets

Triplets are a group of notes (usually 3) that are played in the time of 2. This sounds complicated and, as such, can confuse even the most able music theory student! The following video explains how to calculate the rhythmic value of a group of triplets including:

  • When the notes in the triplet are of equal values e.g. 3 crotchets (quarter notes)
  • When the notes in the triplet are unequal e.g. 2 crotchets (quarter notes) and 2 quavers (eighth notes)
  • When a rest is part of the triplet
